History

Tallaght Community National School was initially founded in 1979 and pupils were taught during the early years in the Parish Hall adjacent to St. Maelruain’s Church.

The current school building was built in 1982 in Jobstown, Tallaght and was opened in October of that year. At this time the school was surrounded by green fields and pastures. As time progressed, housing developments emerged around the school and the school welcomed pupils from the surrounding houses.

Tallaght Community National School is associated with St. Maelruain’s Church of Ireland Church located in Tallaght Village. It was originally intended that the school be built adjacent to the church. However due to land restrictions, this was not to be the case. The school was constructed in Jobstown due to the abundance of land at the time. To this day, the grounds of St. Maelruain’s are extensive and include green fields, mature trees, two playgrounds and a staff car park.
